The 62-year-old man accused of pouring hydrochloric acid into a gay sex club lube dispenser in Sydney has appeared in court.
Hengky Irawan appeared in Parramatta Local Court on Tuesday where his lawyer asked the court for a six-week adjournment so he could undergo a psychiatric assessment.
The man is accused of administering poisons with intent to cause pain, entering a licensed premises to commit an indictable offense and intentionally or recklessly damaging the dispenser.
Hydrochloric acid is a strong, corrosive acid. The scars are permanent.
Police say he drove the gay sex club on a suspended license at 10pm on 27 August.
Entering the Aarows club on Bridge st, he allegedly attempted to pour the acid into the dispensers. But as the dispensers were alarmed, police say, he was caught by security guards at the 24-hour club.
Irawan did not comment.
The case will continue when it returns to court on 1 November.
